Texas Hold'em is by far the most popular poker game around, and this is also the game played at the main championship the World Series of Poker.
In Texas Hold'em, any number of players from 2 to 10 people can play. Each player is dealt two cards face down, also known as the "hole cards." These cards are not revealed to the other players during the game.
The point of Texas Hold'em is to make the best five card hand using your "hole cards" and the five community cards that are dealt face up by the dealer.
To start the game, everyone is dealt two cards and two players are required to provide one a "small blind" and a one a "big blind." This is the amount of money that is put into the pot. If a game is a £6 - £12 Texas Hold'em game, this means that one person puts £3 towards the pot, and another person puts in £6. After each game, the people required to post the small and big blinds move round clockwise. The reason for the blinds is that if everyone but one person folds after receiving their hole cards, then the one person left will still receive some money.
After the hole cards are dealt, there is the first round of betting. After this, three of the community cards are dealt face up, this is also known as the "flop". After the flop is dealt, there is another round of betting. Then, the "turn" or "fourth street" is dealt this is the fourth community card, then another round of betting. Lastly the "river" is dealt this is the last community card and then there is one more round of betting before finally the winner is revealed.
